Summer Welcome Program 2007 - Freshmen Student Schedule

July NSO Dates: July 8-10 and July 11-13

Check In will be in Mahar Auditorium, located next to the Isenberg School of Management Building

  • Located near the visitors center http://www.umass.edu/umhome/visit_campus/directions.html
  • You should plan to park your car in the parking lot next to the Visitors Center (lot 34). FOR THIS EVENT ONLY: Parking Services has waived the need to have a parking pass during this time. A campus map is available here.
  • During the Commonwealth College Summer Welcome Program, you will keep your belongings in your vehicle
  • If you are being dropped off, we are able to hold your belongings during the Summer Welcome Program

Student and Parent Introduction

  • We will review the Summer Welcome Program schedule as well as the New Students Orientation Schedule.
  • You will get a chance to meet the staff.

Students Meeting

  • At this time your families and guests will stay behind for a question/answer session and you will have a chance to meet other Commonwealth College students.
  • This will take place in the lobby outside of Mahar or outside the building (weather depending)
  • We will provide important information for students
  • Walk to Goodell

Student Information Sessions

You will break into small groups to learn about:

  • Honors Course Registration:  An advisor will introduce the honors courses that are offered and how to register for them.
  • Honors Housing Options:  An advisor will introduce Commonwealth College Learning Communities, the courses students take together, and other UMass housing options. 
  • Contract Signing Session:  An advisor will introduce Commonwealth College requirements and give you the opportunity to officially enroll in Commonwealth College by signing the Commonwealth College Contract.

Dinner For Students

  • All the groups will come together for dinner in the Commonwealth College lounge outside 504 Goodell.

If you have any special dietary needs, please contact us at comcol@comcol.umass.edu at least one week prior to your orientation date.

Return to Visitor’s Center area

  • You will be escorted back to your cars, or you can meet up with your families if they have stayed for the Family & Guests Information Session.
  • You will pick up your belongings if you dropped them off with us.
  • This marks the end of the Commonwealth College Summer Welcome Program and the beginning of the UMass New Students Orientation.

Those of you with undeclared majors will be returning to Commonwealth College (504 Goodell) during NSO for academic advising and course selection. 

Those of you with declared majors are not required but are invited to also return to Commonwealth College during NSP for any additional advice you would like to receive from Commonwealth College advisors.
