Welcome Weekend Orientation Leader
Mission
The mission of the Commonwealth College Welcome Weekend Orientation Program is to provide services and assistance that will:
- Aid new students in their transition to Commonwealth College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst
- Expose new students to the services and educationally enriching program opportunities at Commonwealth College
- Integrate new students into the Commonwealth College community
- Welcome family members to Commonwealth College
Role Description
The minimum expectations and responsibilities for Orientation Leaders include:
- Attend and actively participate in the Welcome Weekend Orientation Leader training program.
- Assist in the preparation of orientation activities and materials.
- Acquaint new students with Commonwealth College services and programs.
- Encourage new students to fully participate in the Commonwealth College and University of Massachusetts Amherst Community
- Lead discussion groups with incoming students
- Participate in the evaluation process of the orientation program.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for Orientation Leaders include:
- Must be a Commonwealth College student.
- Understand and believe in the mission of the Commonwealth College program.
- Relate well with students, family members, faculty, and administrators.
- Be reliable, responsible, confident, flexible, willing to help, and an effective communicator.
- Demonstrate a desire to learn about the Commonwealth College, its programs, its people and its community.
- Available to attend all training sessions and orientation sessions.

Requirements
- Attend mandatory meeting with all Orientation leaders TBA
- Move into summer housing for mandatory Leadership Training, Saturday, August 23rd evening-Monday, August 25th evening.
- Participate as leader for Fall Orientation beginning Thursday, August 28-Sunday, August 31
