Welcome Weekend Orientation Coordinator/ Program Assistant

Mission
The mission of the Commonwealth College Welcome Weekend Orientation Program is to provide services and assistance that will:

  • Aid new students in their transition to Commonwealth College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst
  • Expose new students to the services and educationally enriching program opportunities at Commonwealth College
  • Integrate new students into the Commonwealth College community
  • Welcome family members to Commonwealth College

Orientation Role Description
The minimum expectations and responsibilities for the Orientation Coordinators include:

  • Work directly with Assistant Director of Students Programs June, July and August to prepare for Orientation
  • Train OLs in facilitating small group activities including ice breakers, energizers, small group projects and team building activities.
  • Lead and oversee OLs in preparation of orientation materials and other tasks needed to prepare for orientation.
  • Attend and actively participate in the Welcome Weekend Orientation Leader training program.
  • Participate in the evaluation process of the orientation program.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Programming Role Description
The minimum expectations and responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the planning of Fall semester Weekly Wednesday workshops, Pizza and Prof, Dean’s Book and Film series programs.
  • Assist in the planning of other Fall semester programs as assigned.

Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for Orientation Coordinators/Program Assistants include:

  • Must be a Commonwealth College student.
  • Previous work as an Orientation Leader or other leadership position preferred.
  • Understand and believe in the mission of the Commonwealth College program.
  • Relate well with students, family members, faculty, and administrators.
  • Be reliable, responsible, confident, flexible, willing to help, and an effective communicator.
  • Must be able to work autonomously in managing projects.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn about the Commonwealth College, its programs, its people and its community.
  • Available to attend all training sessions and Fall Orientation.

Requirements

  • Attend mandatory meeting with all Orientation leaders TBA
  • Attend mandatory Leadership Training, Sunday, August 24th evening-Wednesday, August 27th
  • Work beginning June 1st-August 30th between 30-40 hours per week. Taking summer classes is negotiable.
