This year's cap-and-gown Honors convocation and gold cord presentation for graduating Commonwealth College seniors and their families will take place

9:00—10:30am
in the Mullins Center,
University of Massachusetts Amherst.

For All Celebration of Excellence Participants, Families and Guests:

Parking
for the Commonwealth College “Celebration of Excellence” Honors Convocation (9:00-10:30)

Transportation
to the University Stadium for the Undergraduate Commencement (12:30-2:30)

Please plan to park ONLY ONCE, for both events, in the lots adjancent to the Mullins Center. Handicap parking will also be available.

Large University shuttle buses will be available directly outside the Mullins center for transportation to the Stadium for Commencement and will be available all day until 5:30 for return to the Mullins parking lots. Smaller, specifically handicap accessible vans will also be available for shuttling to the Stadium. (Click here for more information regarding handicap accessible vans.)

Instructions for Graduating Seniors –
Please Read These All the Way Through

Plan to arrive at the Mullins Center (in your cap and gown) no later than 8:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2008. Seating for your family and friends is open.

Graduates Only:
Follow the signs at the front of the Mullins Center to the interior stairs (after the first set of doors to your right) leading down to the corridor surrounding the floor. (Weather permitting, you can also proceed down the stairs outside the Mullins Center main entrance to the northeast entrance, around the corner from the entrance your parents, family and friends will be using.)

At the tables set up just inside the northeast entrance:

• Fill out the card for the reader; this will be handed in for the speaker(s) to read your name when you receive your gold cord—PRINT LEGIBLY and add any phonetic information that you think will help with correct pronunciation.

• Determine which College you will be sitting with (you will be called up, by College, to receive your gold cord)

• Line up (4 across) down the hall way under the signs (above on your right) for each college. Marshals will lead you in the processional by College.

AFTER PROCESSING IN AND BEING SEATED…

For Gold Cord Presentation: When your College is called:

• BRING YOUR NAME CARD WITH YOU…Please proceed, row by row, to the stairway at the right-hand side (as you face the stage).

• Hand your card to the person at the microphone and QUIETLY say your name (so they can announce it properly).

• Receive your gold cord from the Dean of your College.

• Proceed across the stage to be congratulated by the Dean and special guests.

AFTER THE PROCESSIONAL OUT OF THE ARENA
Please meet your families under the area section that matches the first letter of your last name (all displayed inside the area and outside around the concourse).
