WEEKLY WEDNESDAY WORKSHOPS
Wednesday, September 24th, 2008: "Seeing Green." Commonwealth College Scholarships and some national scholarship information. Presented by Meredith Lind, Director of Academic Programs. The presentation is from 6-7:00 pm and dinner from the Loose Goose Café is provided.
The workshop will take place in the lounge outside of room 504 Goodell. Please RSVP to c3@honors.umass.edu if you would like to attend this workshop.

INVENTION TO VENTURE WORKSHOP
Are you interested in learning about innovation and business plans? Then you will enjoy attending the NCIIA’s “Invention to Venture” workshop on Saturday Sept. 27th, 8:00am-4:15pm at the UMass engineering Lab II Auditorium.
Students can get a refund on their fee by competing in the Innovation Challenge in December. To register, contact Heather Demers.
INTRO TO WALL STREET INFO SESSION
Curious about careers on Wall Street or Investment Banking? Come to the Intro to Wall Street info session, Wednesday, October 8th at 5:45 in SOM room 112. UMass alumnus Chris McCabe ’81, managing director of Piper Jaffray will present. Recent Commonwealth College alumnus Drew Schwartz ’08 will also be there. Students from all majors are welcome.

A representative from the Institute of International Education will be speaking with interested students about the National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships. [More information]
HONORS RESEARCH GRANTS
The deadline to apply for Honors Research Grants for Spring 2009 is Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 4:00 p.m.
Grants of up to $1,000 are available to junior and senior Commonwealth College students, with priority given to seniors working on honors thesis research. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and must submit a six to ten-page proposal outlining their project accompanied by a letter of endorsement from their faculty sponsor. RESEARCH ASSISTANT FELLOWSHIPS
The deadline to apply for Research Assistant Fellowships for Spring 2009 is
Tuesday, October 7, 2008
4:00 p.m.
Commonwealth College students who are currently sophomores or juniors and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher are eligible to apply.
These Fellowships are working fellowships that pay $8.00 per hour up to a maximum of $1,000 for students to work on a faculty member's research project. The program is designed to provide supplemental financial assistance, to give students an opportunity to gain experience in their academic field, and to help prepare them undertake their own research. Students must submit an application jointly with a faculty member. [More information]

GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIPS
The Goldwater scholarship application is due on November 10, 2008 for sophomore and junior NSM and Engineering students. Contact the ONSA office for further details.

The United States Department of State and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) are pleased to announce the availability of overseas scholarships for intensive summer language institutes in eleven critical need foreign languages for summer 2009. [More information]

Dr. Julianne Malveaux, President of Bennett College for Women will be speaking at the University of Massachusetts Amherst on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in the Bernie Dallas Room in Goodell at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The title of the lecture is ?What?s Trump: Race, Class, Gender and the 2008 Election? and is being sponsored by Women?s Studies and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The program is free and open to all. A reception will follow the talk.
