NOMINATE AN OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ADVISOR
The Selection Committee for the 2005-2006 Outstanding Academic Advisor Award invites all students, faculty and staff to nominate academic advisors whose practices distinguish them from other advisors. The characteristics of an outstanding advisor include but are not limited to:
* Building strong relationships with students
* Monitoring students' progress toward academic and career goals
* Making appropriate referrals
* Knowing and understanding institutional regulations, policies and
procedures.
Nominations of faculty and staff who advise undergraduate students should be submitted to: Outstanding Academic Advisor Award Committee, Office of the Provost, 362 Whitmore Building. Nominations (in writing, by phone, or by e-mail to getinde@provost.umass.edu) should be received by Friday 11/18/05. For further information, call the Provost's Office at 545-2554.
STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD MEETING, NOV 22
On the Agenda -
* Access to Non-Honors Courses and Housing Choices
Should Commonwealth College students have preferred access to campus resources, such as courses and housing? Does academic excellence merit nonacademic recognition?
* Monetary Funding for Recreational Activities
Commonwealth College has a developed system for distributing monetary support for academic pursuits (honors research grants and fellowships), but should resources also be available to support extracurricular interests? If so, what qualities of an activity are the most important when considering who can apply for grants and who is most deserving?
*Topics for the last meeting
December 6 th will be the last meeting of the semester. Do you have concerns or ideas about ComCol that you would like to discuss with the Dean or your peers? Please share possible topics tonight for the discussion on 12/6!
The Student Advisory Board meets from 6:00-7:00pm in the Commonwealth College lounge, 504 Goodell. Meetings are open to all Commonwealth College students, and pizza served.
