FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF, SEPT 25
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off will be shown outside by the campus pond, Sunday, September 25th at 9pm. Our C3 (Commonwealth College Community) Event will feature snacks (hot chocolate, cider, popcorn and candy) and FUN!! Bring a blanket to sit on. Our rain date for this event is October 2nd.

PIZZA & PROF WITH BIOLOGIST RANDALL PHILLIS, SEPT 26
Professor Phillis will discuss evolution and stem cell research at the September 26 Pizza & Prof night. The connections to this semester’s Dean’s Book Course text, Remaking Eden, should make for a fascinating discussion. HELP FOR DEAN’S BOOK COURSE RESEARCH PROJECTS AVAILABLE
If you have not used on-line database searches before, resource staff members are available to help you at the new Learning Commons on the lower level of the W.E.B. DuBois Library. See the DBC Research Guide web page for staff hours. Also beginning Sept 26, drop-in presentation practice sessions will be held each Monday, 4:30-5:30, in 504 Goodell.

LIFE AFTER UMASS, SEPT 28
Next week’s Weekly Wednesday Workshop will explore possibilities for Graduate, Medical and Law School with a panel rich in tips for preparation and knowledge of relevant resources on campus. Du Bois library are available to ComCol students.  If you’d like to reserve a carrel for your use this semester, please contact Roland Packard at rpackard@comcol.umass.edu. Carrels not assigned to ComCol students by Oct 1 will be made available to all UMass students.

STUDY INNOVATION IN THE MEDIA, INFO MEETING SEPT 21
The Media Giraffe Project seeks one or two Commonwealth Scholars who would like a hands-on opportunity learn about media and democracy. The project will involve web-based research, reporting, writing, video and audio editing in collaboration with an experienced editor, filmmaker and book editor.
An informational meeting about academic internships doing reporting and research for The Media Giraffe Project initiative, and planning for a potential June, 2006 conference, will be held on Wed., Sept. 21, in the journalism program office, 108 Bartlett Hall. RESEARCH ASSISTANT SOUGHT

Faculty member in the department of Afro-American Studies seeks highly computer-literate student to do searches relating to American poetry in the Chadwyck-Healey Database of 20th Century American Poetry. This database can be accessed from the library at Smith College, so the work must be done at the Smith campus library. I will provide a list of keywords to be searched in the database, and the assistant will search these terms and provide an accounting of where the words occurred in twentieth century American poetry included in the database. Searches outside this particular database may be possible or necessary as well. Knowledge of American literature a strong plus, as is a familiarity with blues music. Contact Professor Steven C. PAID ELECTION WORKERS SOUGHT FOR SEPT 27
Would you like to get paid to help manage the nuts and bolts of an election?  The campus polling place, located in New Africa House, needs election workers for the election on Tuesday, September 27, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Poll Workers must be registered voters in the town of Amherst.  They get paid $7.00 per hour ($8.00 per hour if they have already been trained as poll workers). There may also be some spots for Constables.  Constables do not have to be registered voters in the town, and they get paid $14.00 per hour. The longer you can work on that day, the better, but shorter shifts might also be possible to relieve other workers. WEB DESIGNER POSITION FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING

Analyze End-User’s web requirements; develop web site prototypes in development environment for review; develop site content and graphics by coordinating with End-Users and Assistant Director; design, create, maintain and update web pages; document web site; work with Assistant Director and Graphic designer on web related projects; work as liaison between End-User and IT team (IT Manager/DBA and web app developer); train End-Users to modify web content using Dreamweaver; other duties as assigned.  Work may continue after the fall semester.  Federal Work-Study preferred but not required. STONEWALL CENTER CELEBRATES 20 YEARS

This fall the Stonewall Center celebrates 20 years of dedication to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer, Questioning, and allied individuals. Wednesday, September 21, 4:00-6:00pm is a retirement party for Felice Yeskel, Director of the Stonewall Center. Wednesday, September 21, at 7:00pm in Bowker Auditorium, Stockbridge Hall, “Tara’s Crossing’ a play by Emmy-nominated writer Jeffery Solomon.
