This fall’s book selection is Remaking Eden: How Genetic Engineering and Cloning Will Transform the American Family by Lee M. Silver. It is available at the Textbook Annex for those of you who’d like to get a head start on the reading before the first class.
Dr. Silver will present his most recent work--a follow-up to Remaking Eden entitled Challenging Nature--on October 6 at 8:00pm in Bowker Auditorium, so mark your calendars.

MASSACHUSETTS STATEHOUSE INTERNSHIPS
Fall/Winter 2005
The Caucus of Women Legislators seeks interns for the fall semester and for winter session. The Executive Director seeks reliable and hard-working individuals with interest in the Caucus and its work.
ABOUT THE CAUCUS: The Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators is a bipartisan, bicameral group of female legislators who work to enhance the status of women throughout the Commonwealth. The Caucus sets legislative and budget priorities as well as hosts events to give its members an opportunity to come together and to share common goals and concerns. The Caucus holds several events throughout the year for legislators, their staff members, and the public.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP: Intern candidates should possess strong writing, oral communication, and computer skills. Interns assist with research, event planning and media relations. Interns also conduct administrative duties such as filing, creating spreadsheets, photocopying, and making calls to legislative offices. Professionalism is essential. Because the Executive Director is the sole full-time employee of this Caucus, interns are integral to the functioning of the office and have the opportunity to make a significant positive contribution. Interns will obtain valuable exposure to state government.
REQUIREMENTS: College juniors and seniors as well as graduate students are encouraged to apply. Internships are unpaid and require 10-20 hours per week (between the hours of 10am and 4pm Monday-Friday). College credit is available. Availability from September - December is required of fall interns. Availability from December- January is required of winter session interns.
HOW TO APPLY: Please email a cover letter, one-page resume (including grade point average), and date availability to the Executive Director, Erica Mattison (erica.mattison@state.ma.us). Select applicants will be contacted for interviews.
DEADLINES: Fall application deadline: September 15. Winter session application deadline: November 1.
