COMMONWEALTH COLLEGE NOTICES
ESSAY CONTEST: COMMONWEALTH ESSAYS IN COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING
Learn. Serve. Reflect. Connect.
In order to learn how UMass Amherst students’ work in community service learning has led to building new skills, increased knowledge, careful reflection, development of crucial reciprocal relationships, and creating social change, the UMass Office of Community Service Learning (OCSL) has established a university-wide essay competition. Up to three $250 awards will be presented. For more information, including a submission form, download the essay contest application.
Submissions due March 29, 2006, to the UMass Office of Community Service Learning via email at servelearn@acad.umass.edu or fax at (413) 577-4000.

STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD, OPEN TO ALL, MARCH 28
6:00 - 7:00pm
Commonwealth College Lounge
Dinner is served
On the evening's agenda:
• Are Commonwealth College courses providing an environment that encourages open political discussion? Do you feel that students of all political views and parties are equally encouraged to express their opinions? Without personal knowledge about the SAB, students often get the impression that it has set, elected members.
• Do you think that changing the name of the Student Advisory Board would encourage more students to attend its meetings?
FILM SERIES: THE CORPORATION, MARCH 28
Come join us and watch a critically acclaimed classic as we continue with our 'Rebel With a Cause' Film Series on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 in the Goodell Lounge. Snacks and refreshments provided! Check out the summary below!
THE CORPORATION is a well-organized and deeply fascinating documentary about the growing prominence of large global businesses, and the way that their decisions are impacting the world. Based on the book The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power, the film stars a diverse group including Ray Anderson, CEO of carpet manufacturer Interface; Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, former chairman of Royal Dutch Shell; Dr. Vandana Shiva, feminist and ecologist; Milton Friedman, Nobel prize-winning economist; Marc Barry, corporate spy; Joe Badaracco, professor of business ethics at Harvard; and activists Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and Michael Moore. Providing useful references to major news stories that illustrate various corporate developments, and good information about how the system works, THE CORPORATION empowers viewers and shows them that they can realistically enact change. For that reason, this documentary makes real progress, encouraging viewers to take the world's future into their own hands and away from corporations, whose legal-binding primary interest must be profit (www.rottentomatoes.com).
