The Undergraduate Conference is an excellent opportunity for you to showcase your work in a professional setting. Undergraduate students present their research and creative work in oral or poster presentations to fellow students, faculty and other invited guests. Presentations can be based on one's thesis research, creative work in the visual or performing arts, independent study, community service or study abroad.

5-COLLEGE COMMUNITY-BASED LEARNING WORKSHOP, FEB 21

Come meet and make connections with other Five College students who are involved in Community-Based Learning (CBL), service-learning, and community service on Tuesday, February 21 from 6:00 until 8:45 p.m. This workshop, designed for students of all class years who have a range of experience in community involvement, will promote the continued development of:
. Cultural competence,
. Intellectual curiosity, and
. Strong communicative and listening skills.
Themes of privilege, social justice, and social identity will be explored through:
. An opening address by a community activist;
. Dramatic skits based upon real-life service experiences;
. Discussions with 5-College students facilitated by 5-College students.
You will have an opportunity to learn more about yourself, your community, and community organizations and non-profits by drawing upon the knowledge and expertise of your Five College peers. Some CBL/Service-Learning faculty are making attendance at the workshop a requirement or an extra credit opportunity. Check with your professor. The event is organized by the Five College Committee for Community-Based Learning and Ashley Brown, Five College MACC AmeriCorps*VISTA.

GRATEFUL DEAD PUBLICIST DENNIS MCNALLY:WRITERS WORK, FEB 22
Biographer, Historian, and Publicist for the Grateful Dead

Dennis McNally, who received his Ph.D. in American History from UMass Amherst, is the author of A Long Strange Trip: The History of the Grateful Dead and Desolate Angel: Jack Kerouac, the Beat Generation, and America, which began as his doctoral dissertation. He has been publicist for the Grateful Dead since 1984. Join us as Mr. McNally discusses his experiences as a writer and historian, and the unique ways he's applied his skills and passions. Several departments and organizations are co-sponsoring a March 2nd lecture about growing economic inequality in the U.S. The speaker is Felice Yeskel, Director of Class Action (see their excellent website at http://www.classism.org/). She will focus particularly on how our cultural inability to talk openly about class differences impacts students and the campus community. Mark your calendars: March 2nd, 4:30 PM, Campus Center!
