Research - The Fourth "R"

Research Literacy is a new program at Commonwealth College with an emphasis on improving research skills and academic integrity among undergraduates across the curriculum. We're here to help students become effective and ethical researchers. We're here to encourage instructors to create assignments that teach research excellence.

Our tools and resources help students and their instructors answer questions such as

  • How do I get started doing my research?

  • Which library databases are the best for my research project?

  • How do I know which online resources I should trust?

  • How can I tell if I'm plagiarizing?

  • How can I bring culturally diverse perspectives into my research?

Research Literacy is an integral building block of intellectual community at the University of Massachusetts. Today's world increasingly requires informed citizens to move between various intellectual and professional information communities. Students are prepared for "real life" problem solving through the Research Literacy model of student-generated research learning.

Why Is The Brain Our Logo?

Today, research means bringing together different ways of thinking, and thus, the brain is our logo. Our slogan, Research Literacy -- the Fourth "R," highlights the changing meaning of research in education.
