Master's degree in higher education, track in service-learning and engagement

Drawing on the rich institutional and professional experience in engagement in New England, the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Education offers a master’s degree program to prepare and mentor future directors of service learning and engagement in higher education.

The UMass higher education master’s track in service-learning and engagement is committed to developing leaders of engaged campuses who are critical thinkers and passionate about developing reciprocal university-community partnerships that enhance learning, make better research, and improve our world.

Graduates of the program will have a better understanding of

  • how higher education works: its organization and governance
  • student development theory: how and why service affects students in different ways
  • academic culture and reward systems that influence faculty involvement in engagement
