COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING
Each year, the Citizen Scholars Program honors a scholar who has championed civic engagement, democratic education, and service-learning in their community and across the country. The Distinguished Citizen Scholar events offer program members and the UMass community the opportunity to learn with someone who has worked creatively and consistently to build the common good and contribute insightfully to the public discourse about the issues we face as a society. Past honorees include Johnnetta Cole, president of Bennett College for Women; Robert Reich, former U.S. Secretary of Labor; Ellen Story, Massachusetts State Representative; Nadinne Cruz, former director of the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University; and former U.S. Senator Harris Wofford.
