Post service opportunities

Identifying volunteers who can help to address your organization's—and your clients'—needs can seem like a daunting task, but you can use the list below to learn how the Office of Community Service Learning can help you find the right student volunteers.

Community Service Links (CSLinks)
This database was created by UMass staff for students at the Five Colleges (University of Massachusetts Amherst and Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges) and area high schools to find local community service opportunities.  Community based organizations can register on CSLinks and then post detailed information on their available service opportunities, including roles for individual volunteers, groups and those looking for short-term projects.  Go to CSLinks today to post your opportunities or email for assistance.

1-800-volunteer.org
This national database contains information on community service opportunities across the nation. Using a zip code or city and state, volunteer opportunities are sorted regionally.  Community based organizations can register on 1-800-volunteer.org and then post detailed information on their available service opportunities, including roles for individual volunteers, groups and those looking for short-term projects.  In addition to listings of service opportunities, this website offers tools to help volunteers track their service and maintain a resume of volunteer roles.  The local segment of this resource is maintained by the ACT (Action through Community Teamwork) Community Service Center at Franklin County DIAL/SELF.

Five College Community-Based Learning Courses
Every semester, a list of courses that get students out of the classroom and into the community is compiled.  Consult this list to find courses whose content might be related to the work of your organization.

Community Service Work-Study
If your organization has not already done so, consider becoming a worksite for work-study students.  Students who aim to have community involvement and meet their own financial needs may apply for your work-study position(s).  Organizations are responsible for paying only 25% of work-study students' wages.

Community Service Fair
At the beginning of the fall semester, the Office of Community Service Learning hosts a Community Service Fair.  Community organizations are invited to this event to speak directly with students who want to learn about available volunteer opportunities in the area.  Click here to find out details about the next Community Service Fair.

Student e-newsletter
The Office of Community Service Learning sends a biweekly newsletter to students who have expressed interest in learning about service opportunities, courses and scholarships.

Bulletin boards
If you send a flyer or other written material to our office, we will post it on the bulletin board just outside our office.
