About Us

The UMass Office of Community Service Learning at Commonwealth College (OCSL) connects students, faculty and community organizations.  OCSL seeks to get students and faculty engaged in communities in meaningful and significant ways by addressing community-defined needs.  OCSL also invites community members to share their knowledge and expertise with faculty, student volunteers and each other as a means of promoting and supporting community service learning.

For students, OCSL

• Provides resources for finding service opportunities
• Offers courses and programs that encourage community engagement and promote social justice

For faculty, OCSL

• Offers support and resources
• Assists in identifying community organizations with which to partner

For community organizations, OCSL

• Provides resources for recuiting and working with student volunteers
• Offers opportunities for networking with other organizations
