Over 60 organizations...
Hundreds of ways to engage in community service...
Thousands of ways to make a difference...

STUDENTS: Join us to learn about opportunities to volunteer throughout the local area. Representatives will be on hand from more than 60 community agencies that address a range of issues, including poverty, the environment, advocacy, mentoring, and the arts.  In addition, you can learn about service-learning classes at UMass and how to find a placement for a service-learning course you are enrolled in.

COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS (CBOs) : We invite you to join us at the annual Community Service Fair. You will have the opportunity to connect with members of the UMass community, including undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty and staff. This is an excellent time to find student volunteers for a variety of your needs! In addition, you will have the opportunity to connect with UMass faculty who teach CSL courses.

We also invite members of community-based organizations to join us earlier in the day for our annual networking seminar. This year's seminar is called:
"Collaboration: Harder or Easier Than You Think?"

Collaboration: Harder or Easier Than You Think?
Wednesday, September 10, 2008
8:30 - 10:15 AM
Campus Center 174-76
Facilitated by Alan Bloomgarden

Partnerships that fulfill mutual interests can be among the most rewarding and effective ventures we pursue as organization and program directors. But identifying them and developing them takes time we often feel unable to spend, effort we're hesitant to extend. This Networking Seminar will begin with a light-hearted exercise to spark conversations about where the possibilities for exchanging resources lie, followed by a debriefing in which we'll explore the challenges and opportunities to pursuing reciprocal and beneficial collaboration. Participants will be encouraged to emerge with concrete opportunities for follow-up.

This seminar will be facilitated by Alan H. Bloomgarden. Alan is Coordinator of Community-Based Learning at Mount Holyoke College. He is on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Hampshire County and is co-teaching (with John Reiff) "Introduction to Service Learning and Community Engagement" at UMass Amherst this Fall.

FACULTY: Join us in welcoming community-based organizations to campus. Are you teaching a CSL course? Come to the Community Service Fair to connect with community organizations whose work relates to the content of your course. Also, encourage your students to attend the fair to find community service placements. Want to get involved in CSL? Come to the fair to find out how!
