COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING
The Distinguished Citizen Scholar Public Talk will not be held in 2008.
Each year, the Citizen Scholars Program honors a scholar who has championed civic engagement, democratic education, and service-learning in their community and across the country. By presenting a public talk, the Distinguished Citizen Scholar offers the UMass community the opportunity to learn with someone who has worked creatively and consistently to build the common good and contribute insightfully to the public discourse about the issues we face as a society.
Past Distinguished Citizen Scholars include Johnnetta Cole, president of Bennett College for Women; Robert Reich, former U.S. Secretary of Labor; Nadinne Cruz, former director of the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University; and former U.S. Senator Harris Wofford.
